Dear Tribal Leader:

On July 11, 2011, Acting Assistant Secretary George Sheldon sent a letter announcing the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Tribal Consultation on August 18 in Washington, DC.  That letter also indicated that the Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) is extending an invitation to tribal leaders to engage in consultation and dialogue on August 19th.  We will have the opportunity to introduce the child support program to leaders that currently may not have a program, but are interested in learning more.  For leaders with an existing program, either in the start-up phase or in full operation, there will be discussions on topics such as automation using the Model Tribal System and improving the process of transferring cases from state child support agencies to tribal programs.  We’d like to hear from you during out session about the best format for consultation for these types of discussions.

The OCSE consultation on August 19th will be held in the Aerospace Building at 901 D Street, SW.  The meeting will be held in the multi-purpose room on the 7th floor from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  Please RSVP by August 9th, 2011.  You may RSVP to Paige Hausburg at 202-401-5635 or via email at paige.hausburg@acf.hhs.gov.  Alternatively, you may contact Sandi Lutz at 202 205 3556 or via email at sandi.lutz@acf.hhs.gov.  This is a secured building and the security protocol requires government issued identification for access.  Please RSVP August 9 so we can prepare for your building access.

We understand that resources are limited and travel may not be possible for some tribal leaders.  In order to engage as many tribal leaders as possible, individuals who are unable to travel to Washington, DC can connect to the meeting via a conference call.  The phone number is 888-323-9807.  The participant passcode is 1892974.  This alternative method for involvement in the conversation will benefit both OCSE and tribes.

If you would like to submit written testimony prior to the consultation, please email it to Paige Hausburg via the email address listed above, or send it to the Office of Child Support Enforcement, ATTN:  Paige Hausburg, 901 D Street, SW, Washington, DC 20447.

I look forward to a productive dialogue on child support issues.
