IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN – NATIVE AMERICAN HEALTHY MARRIAGE INITIATIVE

PURPOSE: This project will provide Relationship Enhancement skills to 150 couples (recruited from the TANF program) each year utilizing the Love’s Cradle program. Staff will be trained in Love’s Cradle and will train other trainers to present this course. Focus groups will be developed to create collaborative strategies that will assist the Blackfeet Tribe in Community Wellness and Relationship Strengthening. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

GRAND TRAVERSE BAND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP PROJECT


PURPOSE: This project will provide healthy marriage and relationship education workshops, retreats, and sessions to 370 youth and adults. Staff will be trained to present workshops on PAIRS Jumpstart, PAIRS Passage to Intimacy, PEERS, PAIRS Passion Weekend, PAIRS If You Really Loved Me, PAIRS Relationship Roadmap and PAIRS Relationship Mastery. These curriculums will be utilized in various workshops, weekend retreats, and other seminars. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

HONORING OUR FAMILIES

PURPOSE: This project will establish focus groups at each of the 7 Tribal sites within the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council to provide guidance in curricula development, family recruitment and case management processes. An Interdisciplinary Family Case Management Team (IFCM) will be developed at each Tribal site to help strengthen healthy marriages and relationships of up to 10 families per site per year. The teams will include representatives from Indian Child Welfare, Domestic Violence Shelters, TANF, Elders, other Social Services agencies, and the Honoring Our Children staff. The IFCMs will provide relationship and healthy marriage educational workshops and community events. Mentors will be recruited in the third year to provide informal support to project participants. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

NEBRASKA INDIAN HEALTHY MARRIAGE PROJECT

PURPOSE: This project will establish focus groups and collect 450 surveys to determine a culturally appropriate curriculum for their communities. A Healthy Marriage Strength Builders Manual and Healthy Marriage Media Campaign will also be developed. 16 trainers will be trained to deliver Healthy Marriage education to the different communities serviced by the Indian Center, Inc. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

LUMMI NATION HEALTHY MARRIAGES FOR HEALTHY FAMILIES

PURPOSE: This project will develop definitions of Healthy Marriage according to Lummi cultural standards and will provide healthy marriage education to 40 couples per year. A publicity campaign to increase public awareness of the benefits of healthy marriage will also be mobilized. An annual “Get Hitched Gala” event will occur and this will be a fun and informational event centered on happy marriages. The project will also setup a Healthy Marriage Support Network developed by an Advisory Board to be utilized by the program. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

RED LAKE PATH OF LIFE PROJECT

PURPOSE: This project will establish mentor couples who will be role models to at-risk couples participating in marriage and pre-marriage educational courses. It will also develop an educational course specific to the Red Lake Culture that has been modified from existing marriage curricula. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

NAVAJO HEALTHY MARRIAGE OPPORTUNTIES PROJECT

PURPOSE: This project will provide marriage enrichment activities in the form of PREP training, couple mentoring, and marriage retreats; parenting activities utilizing the Family Spirit Program curriculum, and fatherhood activities using the Dads and Donuts program to 250 couples and 700 children. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

ST. ANN’S NATIVE AMERICAN HEALTHY MARRIAGES INITIATIVE

PURPOSE: This project will provide marriage enrichment activities to approximately 30 families per year. Youth relationship skills education using the PREP curriculum will be provided to 650 youth. This project will also develop a network/referral system for the community that will also be used to develop mentors for the families and youth participating in the program. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT STRENGTHENING AMERICAN INDIAN FAMILIES

PURPOSE: This project will provide youth education in the high school level in youth organizations and community centers on the value of healthy relationship skills including conflict resolution, communication, commitment, marriage education, marriage skills, parenting skills, and relationship skills. This training will also be provided to future and existing families. Mentor couples will be recruited from the workshops to support other couples. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of award.

WINNEBAGO HAZOHI HEALTHY MARRIAGE PROJECT

PURPOSE: This project will provide pre-marital WAIT education; Fatherhood training utilizing the Fatherhood is Sacred curriculum; and PREP training to youth, individuals and couples. Family activities and outings will be developed to provide awareness and recognize the accomplishments of class participants. With this funding, the grantee will provide Train the Trainer activities for the Fatherhood is Sacred and PREP curriculums. This project will be completed within 60 months from the date of the award.
