** Description:
ÿ The NIA intends to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to continue the Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers program.ÿIt is anticipated that this FOA will be published in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts in January of 2013, with the application receipt date in May 2013.ÿThis FOA will utilize the Specialized Center (P50) activity code. ÿ This will be a pilot FOA in the NIH transition to electronic submission of multi-project applications.ÿThis transition was announced September 28, 2012 in NOT-OD-12-161. ÿ Details of the planned FOA are provided below. ÿResearch Initiative Details The goal of this NIA program is to support and conduct research on Alzheimer's disease (AD), to serve as shared research resources that will facilitate research in AD and related disorders, distinguish them from the processes of normal brain aging and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), provide a platform for training, develop novel techniques and methodologies, and translate these research findings into better diagnostic, prevention and treatment strategies. ÿ The Alzheimer's Disease Centers program utilizes a Specialized Center (P50) grant mechanism, which is designed to support a spectrum of basic, translational and clinical research activities utilizing an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to a specific disease entity or biomedical problem area. The overall theme of the Center, proposed research projects and integral resource Cores should relate directly to the etiology, pathogenesis or treatment of AD and related disorders. ÿ This Notice encourages established investigators with proven expertise in and/or novel insights into AD and related disorders to consider applying through this upcoming FOA. ÿFull details will be available in the FOA.? ÿ
