WASHINGTON, D.C., August 31, 2005 --- The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) today announced the award of $7.4 million to 12 Native organizations in Hawaii, American Samoa and Guam. The grants are designed to promote social and economic development and to preserve Native languages and cultures in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific region.
“These grants promote economic opportunity and prosperity for Native families in Hawaii, American Samoa and Guam,” said Wade F. Horn, Ph.D., HHS assistant secretary for children and families. “Equally important, they also will help to preserve the language and cultural heritage of Native communities through the Pacific region.”
The awards were introduced by ACF’s Commissioner of the Administration for Native Americans, Quanah Crossland Stamps, today in Honolulu where she addressed Native leaders, federal and state representatives and community members at the Fourth Annual Native Hawaiian Conference.
