WASHINGTON, D.C., August 31, 2005 --- The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) today announced the award of $7.4 million to 12 Native organizations in Hawaii, American Samoa and Guam. The grants are designed to promote social and economic development and to preserve Native languages and cultures in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific region.

“These grants promote economic opportunity and prosperity for Native families in Hawaii, American Samoa and Guam,” said Wade F. The awards were introduced by ACF’s Commissioner of the Administration for Native Americans, Quanah Crossland Stamps, today in Honolulu where she addressed Native leaders, federal and state representatives and community members at the Fourth Annual Native Hawaiian Conference.

“President Bush supports economic self-sufficiency for Native communities throughout the Pacific region,” Stamps said. “With these awards, a positive difference will be made in the lives of Native children, youth, families and communities in Hawaii, American Samoa and Guam.”
