September 2003 Volume 2, # 2

The National Human Services Information Technology Resource Center (NHSITRC) Website, http://www.acf.hhs.gov/nhsitrc, is a project supported by the Administration for Children and Families ( ACF), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ( HHS). The NHSITRC website is managed and maintained by the State Information Technology Consortium (SITC).

This newsletter is provided as technical assistance to States in their administration and management of automation projects in support of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs nationwide and to inform you of new additions and inclusions on the website.

The NHSITRC State Systems website has been recently updated, the following areas have been added:

This portion of the website was enhanced to provide Tribes and States online capability to access important links and resources available. Included are ACF resource links as well as other Tribal links.

This portion of the website was enhanced to provide a prominent and direct link and general information about the Govbenefits.gov site.

This page was enhanced to provide a new Power Point presentation used by State staff to inform upper management of the benefits of becoming part of the PARIS project.

An opportunity to participate with the NHSITRC as a member of one of the technical work groups:

SITC is seeking participants to serve as members of various work groups to provide subject matter expertise in several areas.

Research and investigate requirements for web-based applications to serve as core technologies to be used for data exchange in applications systems.

Develop training program for State and Tribal systems staff to highlight key components of the HS enterprise architecture. Planned outcomes would be training related to definition, development, and implementation of HS Enterprise Architecture to maximize delivery and integration of services.

Research typical needs of State IT organizations to determine technology constraints and issues impeding maximization of performance in integration of services in the HS organization.

Work groups will be established in each of the areas listed above. Travel expenses related to participation in the work groups will be reimbursed by SITC, which includes air or ground travel, hotel, and per-diem. It is anticipated that the work groups will meet a minimum of one time in person and have conference calls as needed to complete the work. The estimated period of time for the work groups is anticipated to be three to four months each.

Interested individuals should send an email to statesystems@acf.hhs.gov with “Attention: David” in the subject line. Please state your name, contact information, agency affiliation, program area, and relevant experience and interest in the topic. Participation is limited and participants will be selected based on individuals most likely to provide maximum value to the work group.
