OFA and HUD Join Forces for Father’s Day 2013!
ACF's Office of Family Assistance (OFA) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) partner again this year on a Father’s Day 2013 initiative that brings together local Public Housing Authorities (PHA) and Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood (HMRF) programs in co-hosted events with a full day of activities for the whole family.
HUD's Father’s Day 2013 initiative aims to strengthen the bond between children and their fathers, who are often absent from the lives of their children who live in public and multi-family housing. Concurrently, the initiative has the goal of connecting dads to supportive services in their communities including, job training, health screenings and education opportunities.
For the past several years, OFA and HUD promoted Father’s Day events by inviting Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood grantees to partner with local PHAs across the country. Last year, more than 304 PHAs held events in 33 states, with an overwhelming turn out of approximately 35,000—and Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood grantees played a key role in making that event successful.
