Bearing F.R.U.I.T.: Fatherhood Practitioners Forum
Joyce A. Thomas, ACF Region II Regional Administrator, served as keynote speaker at the F.R.U.I.T: Fatherhood Practitioners Forum. An effort between Father's Incorporated and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., this collaborative event was held on June 19, 2013. Regional Administrator Thomas’s keynote focused on the day’s themes: “Stories of Fatherhood from the Field" and "Strategies for Providing Responsible Fatherhood Services to Low-Income Fathers", outlining the work of ACF and commending these partnerships and collaborations. Program participants were encouraged to remain steadfast as advocates who recognize Fatherhood initiatives are becoming foundational for community engagement. Several African American Greek organizations were in the audience. Ms. Thomas, who is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. called upon collaborations and Unity of Purpose between National Greek organizations on behalf of Responsible Fatherhood, stating this issue is at the core of strong families, communities and our future. Ms. Thomas wore a blue ribbon and bow ties pin, accentuating the “ties” between Responsible Fatherhood and Men’s Health. A press conference to launch the Moynihan Report Revisited was another highlight among the forum activities.
The following individuals and organizations were also in attendance: Eugene L. Schneeberg, U.S. Department of Justice, Center for the White House Office of Faith-based & Community Partnerships, Members of the Stronger Families New York Family Strengthening Coalition, the New York Office of Child Support Enforcement, New York City Mayors Office-New York Dad's, Sesame Street, STRIVE International, ChildFind of America, Osborne Association, and numerous other community service organizations in New York and New Jersey.
