Organizational Description

The Ohio Community Action Training Organization (OCATO) was created to provide training and educational resources to support and build the capacity of the 52 locally controlled, private, nonprofit Community Action Agencies (CAAs) in Ohio.

Use(s) of Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Program Funds

OCATO proposes to identify, assess and document exemplary models of 15 community economic development programs that have resulted in meaningful and measurable change for those impacted by poverty.  The Ohio State University’s John Glenn School of Public Affairs will be one of three academic partners for the implementation of this project.  The primary goals of the economic development project are to: 1) identify 15 exemplary economic development programs currently implemented by CAAs in Ohio; 2) assess the implementation, dissemination and sustainability characteristics of the programs; 3) establish a baseline measure for elements that make the programs “exemplary;” and 4) document the programs in a format that identifies information necessary for replication and sustainability.

Expected Outcomes

OCATO will work with its project partners to develop an “Exemplary Practices Manual,” which will be available through the organization’s web portal.  By identifying effective community economic development programs, documenting them and sharing information, it is expected that CAAs will be able to replicate programs that attract economic opportunity to their communities.
