Director, Office of Public Affairs


Tara Wall was appointed by President George W. Bush as Director of the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) at the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in February 2007. OPA is responsible for the dissemination of information to the public and press, as it relates to ACF’s program objectives. ACF is responsible for federal HHS programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families, children, youth, individuals, and communities.

Prior to her current appointment, Tara Wall was a Senior Advisor and Director of Outreach Communicationsfor the Republican National Committee (RNC). In that role, Wall served as a national media spokesperson, advised the RNC Chairman on issues impacting diverse communities and managed the RNC’s Outreach Communications team. The Outreach Communications team worked to bring a compassionate conservative message into every community and to ensure that specialty and mainstream press were informed of the RNC’s coalition efforts, President Bush’s record of achievement and how the Administration’s policies empower people of color.

Tara Wall joined the RNC in May 2004 as Press Secretary for Outreach, after spending 13 years as a news reporter and anchor for the local ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates in Michigan.

Prior to joining the RNC, Wall created, executive produced and hosted a talk showfor CBS Detroit called “Street Beat”. It was a weekly half-hour political affairs program where Wall interviewed top policy makers, politicians, community and business leaders. Also, as Director of Public Affairs for CBS Detroit, Wall managed and staffed the station’s community affairs department, which was charged with overseeing the production of “Street Beat”, station public service announcements, community affairs outreach and other public relations related projects.

In 1999-2000, Wall worked as Associate Director of Governor John Engler’s SE Michigan office. In that role, Wall facilitated meetings and executed policy as a liaison between the Governor’s office and the City of Detroit.

In addition, Tara has worked as a media & political consultant, conservative commentator, and op-ed writer. She has appeared on FOX Newschannel’s “The O’Reilly Factor” and “Big Story”, CNN’s Paula Zahn Now and Inside Politics, C-Span, MSNBC, ABC News Now, PBS’ “To The Contrary”, American Urban Radio Networks, BET and TV One’s “America’s Black Forum”. Wall was also a regular panelist for Ed Gordon’s News & Notes on National Public Radio(NPR) with Juan Williams, debating opposite Democratic strategist Donna Brazile and Professor Ron Walters, PhD. She’s also been quoted in the Washington Post, Washington Times and USA Today.

Wall holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University, with a major in Telecommunications & Film, a minor in Law & Government.
