What We Do

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) provides new populations with the opportunity to achieve their full potential in the United States. Our programs provide people in need with critical resources to assist them in becoming integrated members of American society.

Robert "Bob" Carey was appointed Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement in April 2015. Bob brings more than thirty years' experience working in refugee resettlement with a national voluntary agency (volag), and has also served as Chair of the Refugee Council USA.

U.S. policy allows refugees of special humanitarian concern entrance into our country, reflecting our core values and our tradition of being a safe haven for the oppressed.

ORR collaborates with numerous offices to better serve those in need. Our partners include:


Through the U.S. Repatriation Program, ORR provides temporary assistance in the form of a service loan to eligible repatriates referred from the U.S. Department of State.
