2009 Minority Grants

Title: "Center for Leadership in Disability at Georgia State University Partnership Grant and Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine"

Abstract:
The Center for Leadership in Disability (CLD) at Georgia State University (GSU) is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) with the mission to translate research into sustainable community practices that improve the lives of Georgians with developmental disabilities and their families.  CLS is proposing a partnership with the Satcher Health Leadership Institute (SHLI) at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) to promote and create interdisciplinary research, training, and services to improve outcomes for individuals with disabilities and their families from minority backgrounds.

Title: "The USC UCEDD/California State University LA Minority Partnership"

Abstract:
The USC UCEDD at Children’s Hospital LA (CHLA) is partnering with California State University Los Angeles (CSULA) a minority serving institution, to increase the capacity and responsiveness of the USC UCEDD to racially/culturally/linguistically diverse (RCL) populations with disabilities and to round-out or enhance CSULA’s current array of academic, community service, and research programs using UCEDD expertise in individuals with, or at risk for, behavioral, developmental and or special health care needs and their families, inter-disciplinary practice and process; service models for special populations, and access to our in-house clinics and training programs. Five areas of collaboration are targeted by this grant:

  1. Faculty Development and Shifting the Institutional Culture of the USC UCEDD.
  2. Knowledge Exchange – Cross Institutional Guest Lecture Series.
  3. Student Exchange
  4. Cross-Institutional Collaborative Projects to address RCL disparities and effective interventions.
  5. Minority Opportunities in Research.
