ACF Issues Memorandum Regarding Hurricane Katrina
The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) has issued an Information Memorandum (IM) reminding States of the flexible components of the title IV-E foster care program that may help them address the needs of children in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. The IM, ACYF-CB-IM-05-06, highlights specific title IV-E policies, including foster home licensing and case review requirements, that may be particularly relevant to States affected by the hurricane. It also highlights foster care expenses that may be claimed as foster care maintenance payments, such as personal hygiene items, diapers, high chairs, and transportation costs to a child's home or other location for visitation.
The IM is available on the Children's Bureau Web site at http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb/laws/im/im0506.htm.
The Child and Family Services Reviews Update is designed for professionals interested in the Children's Bureau child and family services reviews. It is supported by the Children's Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and published by the Child Welfare Review Project, which is managed by Johnson, Bassin & Shaw, Inc. For more information, contact the Child Welfare Review Project by e-mail at cw@jbs1.com or by telephone at (301) 565-3260.
