Review Update
In March 2004, the Children's Bureau completed the initial child and family services reviews of all 50 States, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. The Children's Bureau would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to this important effort to help States improve child welfare services and achieve enhanced outcomes for children and families.

The Children's Bureau has begun planning for the subsequent reviews, which will follow the implementation of Program Improvement Plans (PIPs) by the States. This electronic update will be distributed periodically to provide information about the upcoming reviews, the re-review schedule, and the Children's Bureau's efforts to continually enhance the review process.

Be sure to watch for more information about the reviews in future electronic updates, or visit the Children's Bureau Web site at http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb. The Web site is updated frequently and includes the State child and family services reviews Final Reports, review Key Findings Reports, and information on how to obtain copies of the State PIPs.

Consultant Corner
The Child Welfare Review Project, which assists the Children's Bureau in managing the child and family services reviews and coordinates and trains consultant reviewers, has undergone some staff transitions. Beginning in April 2004, Sue Hollar, the former Director of the Child Welfare Review Project, became Director of the State Team Training Project. The State Team Training Project has responsibility to train State child welfare agency staff in preparation for the onsite reviews and provides review-related technical and analytic support to the Children's Bureau.

Aileen Worrell, who previously served as the Project Manager of the Child Welfare Review Project became Director of the project. Aileen now will serve as the primary point of contact for child and family services reviews consultant reviewers. The Child Welfare Review Project can be reached by e-mail at cw@jbs1.com or by telephone at (301) 565-3260.

The Child and Family Services Reviews Update is designed for professionals interested in the Children's Bureau child and family services reviews. It is supported by the Children's Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and published by the Child Welfare Review Project, which is managed by Johnson, Bassin & Shaw, Inc. For more information, contact the Child Welfare Review Project by e-mail at cw@jbs1.com or by telephone at (301) 565-3260.
