INFORMATION MEMORANDUM

TO:   STATE ADMINISTRATORS OF STATE PUBLIC WELFARE AGENCIES, CHILD WELFARE SERVICES STATE GRANT PROGRAM (TITLE IV-B OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT)

SUBJECT:   Apportionment of Funds to States and Territories - Fiscal Year 1985

CONTENT:   Congress has made available for FY 1985 a total of $200,000,000 for the Child Welfare Services State Grant Program (title IV-B of the Social Security Act - the Act). The amount of each State's allotment for the fiscal year has been determined and is listed in the attached table. There are no extra requirements for States to meet in order to be eligible for their share of $141,000,000. States meeting the requirements of section 427(a) or 427(b) of the Act are entitled to their share of $200,000,000.

ATTACHMENT:   Attached is a State table listing the apportionment of Federal Child Welfare Services State Grant funds for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1985 at the $141,000,000 level and the $200,000,000 level.

ACTION REQUIRED:   The apportionment table should be used by the States and Territories in preparing their FY 1985 Annual Budget Request (Form CWS-101). States meeting the requirements of Section 427(a) or (b) of the Act should request their full share of $200,000,000 for the year distributed equally over the four quarters. States not meeting the requirements for additional funds should request their full share of $141,000,000 spread over the four quarters. States that have requested their share of less than $200,000,000 may send in revised requests. States must include all requested funds in their jointly-developed State plan and in their Annual Summary of Child Welfare Services.
