Children’s Bureau Staff Write Article About Future of Child Welfare
The Journal of Public Child Welfare recently published a double special issue to commemorate the Children’s Bureau’s centennial. One of the articles, “The Children’s Bureau’s Vision for the Future of Child Welfare,” was written by five Children’s Bureau staff members and a staff member from Child Welfare Information Gateway. It outlines a vision for child welfare that includes a focus on evidence-based comprehensive services, shared planning and outcomes across child and family serving systems, a national research agenda, public engagement, and structural changes in how policy and funding decisions are made. Additionally, the article details steps to improve the child welfare workforce, such as improving recruitment and selection of staff, developing knowledge and skills, establishing conducive work environments and cultures, and cultivating leadership.
