N = 327,257 male and 346,981 female report-child victim pairs.

A report-child victim pair counts each child in each report in which he or she is found to be a victim, thus some children are counted more than once. Each child can be the victim of more than one type of maltreatment. Rates were based on the number of victimes of maltreatment for each age//sex group, divided by the same age/sex group in the population and multiplied by 1,000.

This table first breaks the child population down into age and sex groups. These groups are listed in the first column and are as follows: Male 0-3, Female 0-3, Male 4-7, Female 4-7, Male 8-11, Female 8-11, Male 12-15, Female 12-15, Male 16-17, Female 16-17. The last two rows account for all Males and all Females respectively, regardless of age. The rest of the columns each list a type of maltreatment in the following order: Neglect, Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Medical Neglect, and Psychological/Emotional Abuse. Below each of these titles is the rate of children in the specified age/sex group that was a victim of this type of maltreatment. The lower part of the chart lists the median ages for each type of maltreatment for both sexes.
