Based on data from 30 States: Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Two States —Maine and Vermont —reported zero fatalities in the Child File.
If a State did not report the age or sex of a child fatality victim, that fatality was not included in this analysis.
Total does not equal 100 percent due to rounding.
This table compares the age and gender of children who died from maltreatment. The first column lists the ages ranging from less than 1 year to 6 years or older, each age with its own row. The next two columns account for male victims and female victims respectively. The last column reports the total fatality victims, regardless of sex. Each column reports the number of child fatalities, corresponding to the age and sex of the child, in addition to the percentage of the fatalities that fell within the specified age and sex.
