Perpetrators by Relationship to Victims and Selected Types of Maltreatment, 2003

This bar graph indicates the perpetrators' relationship to their victim for neglect, physical abuse, and sexual abuse maltreatment types. For almost every type of perpetrator, neglect was the most common type of maltreatment. More than three-quarters (75.9%) of perpetrators who were friends or neighbors committed sexual abuse.
