This table first lists every State and the total number of victims in that State. It then proceeds to classify the cases by the type of maltreatment to which the victim was exposed. Each type of maltreatment has a column that lists the number of cases followed by a percentage of the total victims. The types of maltreatment are: physical abuse, neglect, medical neglect, sexual abuse, psychological maltreatment, other, and unknown or missing. The last two columns indicate the total number of maltreatments and the total percentages. Many of the percentages add up to numbers higher than 100 because some victims were exposed to multiple types of maltreatment. More than 60 percent (60.9%) of victims experienced neglect.
