Maltreatment Types of Fatalities, 2004

This bar graph breaks down the fatality victims by type of maltreatment. Each bar represents a type of maltreatment in the following order: neglect only; multiple maltreatment types; physical abuse only; psychological maltreatment only, other only, or unknown only; medical neglect only; and sexual abuse only. Most fatalities were associated with neglect only (35.5%), combinations of maltreatment types (30.2%), and physical abuse only (28.3%).
