Maltreatment Types of Fatalities, 2004
This table lists the following types of maltreatments: neglect only; physical abuse only; multiple maltreatment types; unknown only, psychological maltreatment only, other only; and sexual abuse only. The next column displays the number of child fatalities that occurred as a result of the specified type of maltreatment. The third and last column gives a percentage of child fatalities that occurred as a result of each type of maltreatment. During 2004, more than 35.5 percent of child fatalities were the result of neglect.
