Based on data from 40 States.

Age and Sex of Child Fatalities, 2007
This table compares the age and sex of children who died from maltreatment for only those States that reported fatalities in the Child File. The first column lists the age groups ages <1, 1, 2, 3, 4–7, 8–11, and 12–15, 16–17, and unknown. Next the population, number of victims, and rate of fatalities per 100,000 are presented for boys and for girls. Next is a column containing the number of victims with an unknown sex. Then the boys, girls, and unknowns are added together for the total number, rate per 100,000, and percentage of fatality victims. A total of 1,280 children died as a result of abuse or neglect, as reported by States in the Child File only.
