Hawaii State Comments

Susan M. Chandler, Director
Hawaii Department of Human Services
(808) 586-4997

Child Welfare Context Data, Section B: The age data underwent corrections after the FY 1998 AFCARS foster care record was transmitted for the report period ending 9/98.

Child Welfare Outcome Data, Outcome Measure 7: (“Reduce Placements of Young Children in Group Homes or Institutions Group Homes.”) The percentage is inflated because some types of homes included in the count were erroneously defined as group homes.

We noted that there were no data listed for Hawaii for Child Welfare Outcome Measure 1: (“Reduce Recurrence of child Abuse and/or Neglect.”) We now have prior year data (FY 1996) available to calculate this outcome, and we would be happy to submit these data for future reports.
