Mississippi [ State Comments]

Mississippi does not have data available for outcome measures 1.1 and 2.1 because this information is obtained through NCANDS DCDC submissions and at this time, Mississippi reports SDC instead of DCDC due to constraints on our current data system. When we are online with our Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System, we will incorporate DCDC and this information will become available.

The data in Section C indicate a difference between the numbers of children in care on the last day of fiscal year 1998 and the first day of fiscal year 1999. This information is obtained from AFCARS. We can find no explanation for the variance in these numbers.

Outcome measure 7.1 indicates a high percentage of children placed in group homes. This information is obtained from the living arrangement codes in AFCARS. The particular code for group homes is also the same code for emergency shelters in which most of our children are admitted on a short-term basis (but more than 24 hours) before a more permanent placement is located.
