Sources of Data and Data Collection Methods
Information is from the statewide data system. Child protective services workers or data entry operators with the agency enter the information from each parish office, and the data are then aggregated statewide. Most of the data in this summary are based upon validated (substantiated) cases.

Level of Evidence Used To Substantiate a Report
Some credible evidence.

Comments on Specific Items
Item 2: This number includes alleged victims only, not household members.

Item 3:"Other Relatives" includes parents and friends and neighbors. An allegation can have more than one source of report.

Items 3 and 4:The totals vary slightly because the run dates of the two reports are 1 month apart.

Item 4: "Other" includes "client noncooperation," "unable to locate family," and "miscellaneous."

Item 7:"Other Abuse" includes "death," "out-of-home care," "combination," and "miscellaneous." An out-of-home care maltreatment might be a licensing violation, e.g., inappropriate restraint, in a residential facility.

Item 13: The count does not include families with children in foster care. Another 7,834 families with children in foster care received additional services.

Item 14:There are some cases still pending review. This figure is based upon a case-by- case count of fatalities.

Item 15:The number of perpetrators reflects that a single perpetrator could have abused/neglected more than one victim and that a victim could have had more than one perpetrator.
