Item 1.1: This item reports the number of recipients of family preservation services. All recipients were in the CPS system. The services included crisis intervention counseling, individual and family therapy, communication and negotiation skills, parent education, and home management skills. The services are considered "preventive" because they were intended to prevent removal of the children.

Item 2.2: Substitute care providers are included in "Alleged Victims." Alleged perpetrators are included in "Parents," "Other Relatives," and "Friends and Neighbors."

Items 2.3, 3.1, and 4.1: Arizona no longer uses the "indicated" disposition. These cases were carried over from last year.

Item 2.3: Not every report referred for investigation was investigated. Some cases did not meet the statutory requirements of a report of child maltreatment. The reasons for noninvestigation may be the following:

  1. Concern Only/No Allegation of Child Maltreatment;
  2. Out of CPS Jurisdiction;
  3. Call Appropriate for Law Enforcement Jurisdiction;
  4. Non-Caretaker Abuse/Child No Longer at Risk;
  5. Insufficient Information to Categorize;
  6. Truancy/Custody Issues;
  7. Current Case Questions or Referrals.
