Item 2.1: The Child Abuse Hotline received 352,792 calls in CY97, many not related to abuse/neglect. Once a report was taken, it was referred for investigation.

Item 2.2: Mental health personnel are included in "Medical Personnel."

Items 2.3, 3.2, and 3.5: "Other Dispositions" is used for those for which a final finding is still pending.

Item 4.1: Counts are duplicated for those children with more than one substantiated abuse.

Item 6.1: All perpetrator data are unduplicated counts.

Item 7.3: The methodology calculates the average time between when a report is taken at the hotline and the first contact is made by the investigator.
