Item 2.1: Of the 10,318 reports that were not assigned for investigation, 3,425 were considered appropriate for CPS but were not assigned for investigation because available staff resources do not allow all appropriate reports to be assigned.

Item 2.2: "Child Day Care Providers" includes substitute care providers.

Item 3.2: "Other Dispositions" contains children who were pending a disposition.

Items 3.3 and 3.4: These numbers add up to a larger total of substantiated children than noted in Item 3.2 because they were not counted at the same time as the children in Item 3.2.

Item 4.2: Data were collected by age group and divided to provide an estimate for each specific age.

Item 4.6: Maine has a very limited Family Preservation Program in only 2 of the 12 District Offices.

Item 4.9: This is an estimate.
