General: Over the time span represented by this report (FY97), Montana was converting to its current electronic system, Child and Adult Protective Services System (CAPS).

Item 1.1: These are unduplicated counts. Programs include Partnership to Strengthen Families (State funds); Family-Based Services (State funds); and Family Preservation/Family Support (Federal title IV-B funds).

Item 2.1: Montana statute mandates that all reports indicating reasonable cause to suspect that a child is an abused or neglected child must be investigated.

Item 3.2: E, "Children for Whom the Investigation Was Closed Without a Finding" is included in F, "Other Dispositions."

Item 7.1: This is the number of FTEÂ’s located outside the central office. It includes community social workers, family resource specialists, administrative support staff, and supervisors.

Item 7.2: In many rural areas, workers perform all functions: screening, intake, investigation, and assessment. It was not possible to provide the number of FTEÂ’s who performed only screening and intake.
