Item 1.1: Service programs included were Family Preservation Services, Intensive Family Preservation Services, and Family Support Services.

Item 2.1: The reasons that reports are not referred for investigative assessment are 1): the problem described, if true, does not meet any of the statutory definitions; 2) the individual is not a juvenile under statutory definitions; 3) the allegation in no way suggests that the action or inaction of a parent or caretaker resulted in harm to the child.

Item 4.1: "Other" includes encouraging, directing, or approving of delinquent acts involving moral turpitude committed by a juvenile.

Item 4.9: These data were provided by the North Carolina guardian ad litem organization.

Item 5.1: Data on child abuse homicides were supplied by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Child abuse homicide is defined as the killing of a child by a person responsible for the childÂ’s health or welfare. It does not include deaths caused by child neglect or lack of supervision.
