Item 1.1: Data are reported for adults, not families. During the year 1997-1998, the Department of Children’s Services granted funds to 26 agencies with more than 30 sites to provide Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) client-based services. Some adults and children may have received more than one service and would be counted more than once in the following service categories: Counseling, 5,688; Family Education (including parenting, child development, pre-natal, and parent training lab), 4,998; Child Abuse Prevention Education and Training Presentations, 6,404; Referrals Made (including counseling, medical resources, legal services, law enforcement, educational resources, employment, housing, child abuse and neglect, and family violence shelter), 4,115; and Referrals Received (school systems, law enforcement, medical services, family violence shelters, child abuse organizations, and community organizations), 1,348.

Item 7.2: Generally speaking, screening and intake are county-based (there are 95 counties). They are performed on an "as needed" basis by a variety of staff. CPS was unable to provide a count of these positions.
