Item 1.1: These numbers are duplicated and include grantees from Family Preservation and Support funds as well as preventive services paid through DFS service contracts for families.
Item 2.3: The "Not Substantiated" investigations include 57 child perpetrators.
Item 3.2: In the 535 substantiated cases, 818 victims were counted. This number does not include those victims substantiated at low risk or victims whose perpetrator was a minor.
Item 4.1: "Physical Abuse" includes minor physical injury, 204; major physical injury, 13, dangerous act, 25, and death, 4. "Neglect or Deprivation of Necessities" includes educational neglect, 14; lack of support 195; and abandonment, 11. "Medical Neglect" includes drug poisoning, 7, and nutritional deficit, 1.
Items 4.2-4.5: These are unduplicated counts.
Items 7.1 and 7.2: A system search was conducted, and each worker who had an open CPS case in 1997 was counted. Workers are mainly generic and carry a mixed caseload of investigations, family- based services, foster care placements, juvenile probation, and after care. Numbers represent line staff, supervisors, and county managers. All Department of Family Services field staff involved in social services delivery are trained in CPS investigation, intake, and screening. Each may share an on-call rotation.
