Profile of the National Employer Community

• There are approximately 6.6 million employers in the United States.
• The Federal government is the largest employer, with more than 4 million employees.
• 2.6 million civilian employees (including USPS) and 1.4 million military personnel.
• Total child support collections in Fiscal Year 2004 topped $21.9 billion. Employers were responsible for collecting more than 70% of this amount.
• Many employers want to comply with all requirements of the Child Support Enforcement Program because they believe what they do promotes the public good.
