Use of Personal Computers for Weekly Update Process

DC-9220

May 19, 1992

TO ALL STATE IV-DIRECTORS

RE: The Use of Personal Computers for the Weekly Update Process

Dear Colleague:

This letter is in regard to the Federal Tax Refund Offset Program and the use of personal computers for the weekly update process. For those States who currently log on to Tax offset to enter updates, there will be an additional choice on the screen. There will be an option for each State to query cases that were submitted for offset by your State to check the status. This includes checking to see if a collection or adjustment has been made, or if an update was processed, i.e.: modification, deletion, State payment. Currently, you will not be able to tell if the case was also certified by another State: therefore, you will need to verify with the Special Collections Unit if there is a question.

We believe this will be a useful tool to many States and encourage its use. We would like to request however that once a State has queried a case that you exit the file allowing other States to look cases up. If a State ties up the file for too long, other States will be "locked out". It is also important for security reasons that States exit after inquiries are complete.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the Special Collections Unit on (202) 401-9389.

Sincerely,

Allie Page Matthews
