ACF/Office of Child Support Enforcement
Dear Colleague:
Enclosed you will find the U.S. Census Bureau report, Child
Support for Custodial Mothers and Fathers: 1991. As in prior
years, the Office of Child Support Enforcement was a co-sponsor
of the survey on which this report is based.
In 1992, for the first time in the history of the survey, men
were asked about their child support situations. Some of the
highlights of the report are as follows:
As of spring 1992, 11.5 million parents were living
with their children whose other parents were not in the
household. About 86 percent of these custodial parents
were females and 14 percent were male.
About 54 percent of custodial parents received awards
for child support. Custodial mothers had a higher
award rate than custodial fathers.
Approximately 76 percent of custodial mothers and 63
percent of the custodial fathers due child support in
1991 received full or partial payment.
I hope that you will find the information provided in this report
of interest to you. Additional copies may be requested through
the National Child Support Training Center at (202)401-9383. If
you have any questions, you may call Joyce Pitts on (202)401-
5374.
Sincerely,
David Gray Ross
Deputy Director
