Re: Federal Tax Refund Offset - First Collection Report for Processing Year 1997

Dear Colleague:

We are very pleased to forward to you the first Collection/Adjustment/Address and corresponding Name Change reports for the 1997 Federal Tax Refund Offset Program. Enclosed is the collection report representing the tax refund offsets for the month of February 1997 less the IRS service fee and any adjustments made during this period for the 1992 through 1997 processing years.

The net collection total for February 1997 for 122,861 offsets is $125,811,774 as compared to 110,819 offsets for $105,937,410 in

February 1996. This represents nearly a 20% increase over the February 1996 net collection amount.

This is a final reminder that the IRS service fee has increased for 1997 to $6.02 from $5.71 in 1996. The transfer of funds through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) is scheduled to be accomplished on February 28, 1997.
