Dear Colleague:

We are very pleased to forward to you the seventh Collection/Adjustment/Address and corresponding Name Change reports for the 1997 Federal Tax Refund Offset Program. Enclosed is the collection report representing the tax refund offsets for the month of August 1997 less the IRS service fee and any adjustments made during this period for the 1992 through 1997 processing years.

The net collection total for August 1997 for 23,337 offsets is $12,329,959 as compared to 25,785 offsets for $15,725,918 in

August 1996. The net Year-To-Date collection total through August is $1,069,809,553 for 1,244,932 offsets as compared to $979,864,328 for 1,172,627 offsets for processing year 1996. We are over 9% ahead of last year's net Year-To-Date collection total for the same time period.

The transfer of funds through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) is scheduled to be accomplished on August 29, 1997. Please inform the appropriate personnel of the transfer date. If you have any questions please contact the Special Collections Unit at (202) 401-9389.
