RE: FY 2000 Data Preview Report

Dear Colleague:

Enclosed is a copy of the Child Support Enforcement (CSE) FY 2000 Data Preview Report. This report provides financial, statistical, and incentive information on the Child Support Enforcement program for fiscal year 2000, as of April 2001.

These data show that in FY 2000 State Child Support Enforcement Programs:

Collected about $17.9 billion in child support payments, an increase of 12.3% from FY 1999,
Established and acknowledged nearly 1.6 million paternities, and
Established almost 1.2 million orders for child support.

This report incorporates reporting changes necessary for the new performance-based incentive funding system. States use the OCSE-157 form to report caseload, orders and paternities established, medical support, staffing, and other statistical information to OCSE. Since the OCSE-157 report started a new data series in fiscal year 1999, some FY 1999 and 2000 data are not comparable to previous years’ data. Please note that no assumption has been made at this point regarding data reliability for each state, however, some inconsistent information has not been included.

Officials should review data for their State to ensure that numbers included in this report agree with their submissions to the Office of Child Support Enforcement, since some of these data will be used to calculate States’ performance measures. State officials should contact their regional office with any concerns.
