RE: National Directory of New Hires (NDNH) Regional Data Quality Conference Calls

Dear Colleague:

In an effort to improve data quality on the National Directory of New Hires (NDNH), the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) hosted a series of regional data quality (RDQ) calls during the months of February and March 2002. The purpose of the calls was to solicit feedback from state IV-D staff regarding the quality and usefulness of the NDNH data they receive; identify any issues and concerns with the data or the processing of the data; and solicit recommendations on quality improvement.

I would like to thank the staff from 41 states who participated on the calls. The calls were organized by region and any state representatives who were unable to participate in their regional call were invited to participate in another region’s call. An agenda was distributed to each state’s Federal Case Registry (FCR) contact person. Those who could not participate were invited to review the agenda and provide any feedback they felt was relevant.

Attached is a summary of the feedback from the RDQ calls that addresses how IV-D caseworkers are handling the NDNH data and their recommendations to OCSE for data quality improvements. Additionally, follow-up calls with officials from 19 state IV-D and State Employment Security Agencies began in June and will continue though early September 2002.

As always, OCSE will continue to work with state officials and our external partners to ensure that the information we process and return to states is as accurate as possible. If you have questions about any of the attached materials, please contact either Ella Lawson at (202) 40l-4963 or Rose Hodel at (703) 345-8091.

Sincerely,

Sherri Z. Heller, Ed.D.
Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
