INFORMATION MEMORANDUM

OCSE IM-01-03

DATE: JUNE 13, 2001

TO: STATE AGENCIES ADMINISTERING CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT PLANS UNDER TITLE IV-D OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT, STATE ACCESS AND VISITATION PROGRAM DIRECTORS, AND OTHER INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS

SUBJECT: PRELIMINARY DATA ON CHILD ACCESS AND VISITATION PROGRAM SERVICES AND RECIPIENTS

The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 authorized the Child Access and Visitation Grants Program. This Act requires states to monitor and report each year on their access and visitation grant activity. This Information Memorandum contains a preliminary profile of state access and visitation grant activity, based on information supplied by the states. Its purpose is to provide interested parties with a preliminary overview of the services available in each state and a profile of the persons who receive those services. The information will also be available on OCSE’s Website at: /programs/cse.

We anticipate that sharing of information in this manner will facilitate a broader exchange of best program and policy practices among states and interested parties. It will also provide the foundation for a national analysis of this important program.

We appreciate the states’ input and cooperation in this important endeavor on behalf of children and families. For further information, contact Phil Sharman at (202) 401-4626.
