INFORMATION MEMORANDUM

IM-08-06

DATE: May 15, 2008

TO: STATE AND TRIBAL AGENCIES ADMINISTERING CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT PLANS UNDER TITLE IV-D OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT AND OTHER INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS

SUBJECT: Employment Verification from the U.S. Postal Service (USPS)

BACKGROUND: Recently, the USPS changed its business practice regarding requests for employment and income verification of its employees. Many of these requests are computer-generated and seek information already provided by new hire or quarterly wage reports.

The USPS will no longer reply to requests for employment verification. This service has been outsourced and replaces the USPS's automated Employment Verification System (EVS), 800-276-9850. Calls made to the EVS will now forward to their third-party provider.

Employment Verification

The USPS contracted its employment and wage verification process with a third-party provider which has an online database of basic employment and payroll data, including current year-to-date pay plus payroll history for the previous three years. The USPS electronically updates information to the vendor every pay period. In order to use the service, child support offices must first register by completing an application form. You may obtain an application form for this service online at www.theworknumber.com/socialservices or by phone at (800) 660-3399.

Continue to Send IWOs and NMSNs to the USPS in Eagan, MN

A future Information Memorandum will clarify how to obtain health insurance information on a USPS employee/non-custodial parent.
