New Online Learning Tool Teaches the Basics of Domestic Violence
The Family Violence Prevention and Services Program is pleased to announce the launch of Domestic Violence: Understanding the Basics, an online learning tool developed by FYSB grantee, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and VAWnet, the National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women.
This 1-hour interactive eLearning module describes the dynamics and common tactics that characterize domestic violence, provides an overview of the scope and impact on individuals and society, explores the underlying factors that allow domestic violence to exist, offers insight into the various risks and choices that survivors face, and shares how to be part of the solution.
Divided into 10 sections that address common questions related to domestic violence, this self-guided online course will help new advocates, allied professionals, students, volunteers and the general public achieve a basic understanding of the complexities of this issue. Those who take the course will learn about the prevalence of domestic violence, as well as strategies to recognize and address domestic violence in their own communities.
While taking the course, users have the option to follow along with audio, allowing them to listen to poignant stories from survivors of domestic violence, advocates and allies working to provide services and support. Upon finishing the course, users can print a certificate of completion recognizing their efforts to inform themselves on such a critical issue.
