February 26, 2009As part of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, Title V, Section 510 provided funding to States to support abstinence education, with the ultimate goal of preventing unwed childbearing, pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. To learn more about the public’s views, the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) funded a survey to examine current attitudes of parents and adolescents regarding sex, abstinence and abstinence messages.
Title V State Abstinence Education Grant Program Fact Sheet
April 6, 2012The Title V State Abstinence Education Grant Program (AEGP) provides funding to States and Territories for abstinence education, and where appropriate, mentoring, counseling and adult supervision to promote abstinence from sexual activity. Projects focus on those groups most likely to bear children out of wedlock, including youth, ages 10 to 19, who are homeless, in foster care, live in rural areas or geographic areas with high teen birth rates, or come from racial or ethnic minority groups.
