Tools for AFI Program Management: Part 3

Focus:

The third of our series of calls on project management took place Tuesday, September 11, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern, and again on Thursday, September 13, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.

Listeners were introduced to two new AFI program performance targets and a new hands-on planning tool for using targets to manage IDA initiatives and measuring progress.

To prepare for the September call, grantees were asked to:

  • Review their current work plan/benchmarks/indicators -- whatever they use to help determine how many assets are planned for purchase;

  • Review where their projected numbers are to date (e.g., recruitment, enrollment, savings, purchases), and know how far into their AFI financial award they will be by end of September (i.e., year 1, 2, 3, 4, 5);

  • Know the parameters of their savings plan agreements (do you have established minimum and maximum savings periods?), their financial management training (how often? how long to complete?), and know how often they allow participants to enroll into their IDA initiative; and

  • Think about which staff within their organization are involved in helping Account Holders move toward their asset purchase.

  • Listen to the August call if they missed it by calling 1-866-465-1311 to hear the call in its entirety. This call provides general background on performance management and the AFI framework for performance management.

  • For general information about performance management and the AFI Performance Management Framework, please see our AFI Performance Management Page.

(Grantees with multiple projects may want to use one as the focus for the exercises and tools.)

Our project management series will conclude in October with training on analyzing current and past performance of your IDA initiative (trend analysis) to forecast what may happen in the future. The October sessions will also include a discussion of using planning tools to test alternative project modifications.

Please feel free to send your own project management tools to info@idaresources.org for review and possible inclusion in a new AFI Project Management workbook.

The call-in number is 1-888-390-4470; Passcode: AFI
