Using Data to Maximize AFI Project Outcomes

Focus:

The call presented ways in which AFI Projects could use data they already collect to manage and enhance project outcomes and increase participant success. The call also gave an overview of responses from AFI Projects surveyed concerning their data collection practices and priorities.

Key Points:
  • It is important to think about how you will use data before you begin collecting it.
  • Data collection must be consistent and ongoing, but do not hesitate to adapt the data collection if it proves inadequate to answer your questions; or consider whether the questions are the best ones to follow your project's impact.
  • Use the data to understand the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of program policies and procedures; and don't be afraid to make operational changes if the data suggests ways to enhance performance.
  • When you make changes, keep tracking to measure the effect of your response to a challenge.
