SCORE as a Resource Center for Small Business
Focus:
The conference served to familiarize AFI grantees with the resources and services of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). In addition, grantees were invited to apply for participation in a pilot initiative matching AFI Projects with local SCORE chapters to enhance training and mentoring for participants who have chosen small business as their goal.
Key Points:
- SCORE offers business counseling and one-on-one mentoring for would-be entrepreneurs through its web site and through chapters and volunteers in every state.
- The SCORE web site includes numerous tools for business planning and operations, as well as documentation of effective practices for almost any industry sector or business function.
- The Center for Faith-based Initiatives of the Small Business Administration sets a priority on assisting local organizations, such as AFI grantees, to increase their capacity to support small business development.
