CSBG-Spotlight on Poverty
Spotlight on Poverty
During January 2013 the Urban Institute posted a commentary on the Spotlight on Poverty webpage discussing some of the outcome of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds of 2009. The article, entitled “The Stimulus’s Hidden Success,” presents some of the achievements of the CSBG ARRA. The Urban Institute discusses how the CSBG ARRA was successful in four ways: 1) The number of jobs the CSBG network was able to create using ARRA funds was higher than the number reported; 2) CSBG grantees were able to serve more people and provide more services as a result of the additional funds; 3) the stimulus also helped grantees build capacity, an activity that has a long-term positive impact not easily captured through short-term data; and 4) these results were achieved in just 18 months – a very tight timeframe for a major initiative.
