All federal funds are contingent upon annual budgetary Congressional approval. Please note that funds were not appropriated for the Compassion Capital and Strengthening Communities Fund Programs. Therefore, the Administration for Children and Families will not hold additional competition or award new grants for this program.
The Strengthening Communities Fund (SCF) worked with nonprofit community and faith-based organizations to address economic recovery issues in local communities. SCF funded projects helped low-income individuals:
Secure and retain employment
Earn higher wages
Obtain better quality jobs
Gain greater access to state and federal benefits and tax credits, including American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) benefits
Our main goal was to enable nonprofit organizations to contribute to the economic recovery of disadvantaged populations. We helped federal, state, local and tribal governments better serve those in need.
SCF supported grantees through the following programs.
Nonprofit Capacity Building Program This program linked experienced lead organizations with nonprofit organizations in order to provide capacity building training, technical assistance and competitive financial assistance.
State, Local and Tribal Government Capacity Building Program This program funded government offices or their grantees to provide free training and technical assistance to grassroots organizations.
