The Head Start Bureau and the ACF Child Outcomes Research and Evaluation unit in the Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation awarded five cooperative agreements in September 2002 under the Head Start Child Outcomes Research Support (CORS) Consortium to promote the school readiness of preschool children in Head Start.
These grants funded partnerships between academic researchers and Head Start programs, to designed to and model use of child outcomes to improve local programs by implementing interventions and targeting specific aspects of the Head Start program to child outcomes. All projects will reported on 1) empirically derived measures to assess outcomes within the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework; 2) current results; and 3) mechanisms for feedback to program staff to enhance service delivery systems. In addition, the partnerships will considered the feasibility of using local assessment data for external accountability purposes.
