Figure 1 AOD Treatment Engagement – 9 months

Figure 1 shows the number of substance abuse treatment sessions attended during the 9 months post admission for client in ICM and clients in CC. Specifically, during 0 to 3 months post admission clients in ICM attended 22 sessions, a significantly greater number than the 12 sessions attended by CC clients (p<.001). Similarly during 4 to 6 months post admission, clients in ICM attended 18 sessions while clients in CC attended only 8 sessions (p<.001). During 7 to 9 months, ICM clients continued to attend significantly more sessions than CC clients (p<.0001) with ICM clients attending on average 14 sessions and CC clients attending 4 sessions.(back)

Figure 2 AOD Treatment Engagement – 9 months

Figure 2 is a simple bar graph that depicts the percentage of participants in ICM and CC who attended 90 sessions or more during the first 9 months in the study. Specifically, 23% of ICM clients and 5% of CC clients attended 90 sessions or more during their first 9 months in the study (p<.001).(back)

Figure 3 Substance Use Outcomes

Figure 3 is a line graph that presents the percentage of clients who were abstinent during each of the first 9 months of the program. Significantly more clients in ICM were abstinent during each of the 9 months. During the first month, approximately 41% of ICM clients and roughly 32% of CC clients were abstinent. During the second month, roughly 36% of ICM and 31% of CC clients were abstinent. By the third month, 36% of ICM clients abstained versus 28% of CC clients (p<.001). This upward trend continued and at month 4, approximately 40% of ICM clients and 30% of CC clients were abstinent. During the fifth month, approximately 46% and 32% of ICM and CC clients were abstinent, respectively. At the sixth month, the percentage of abstinent CC clients increased to approximately 38% while the percentage of abstinent ICM clients slightly decreased to roughly 42%. During the seventh month, the percentage of ICM clients and CC clients increased to roughly 50% and 39% respectively. The eighth and ninth months saw slight decreases in the percentage of abstinent ICM clients with 49% and 48% abstinent during each respective month. The percentage of abstinent CC clients increased slightly during the eighth month to approximately 40% while the percentage of abstinent CC clients during the ninth month decreased slightly to roughly 39%.(back)

Figure 4 Employment Outcomes

Figure 4 is a bar graph that presents 9-month employment and training outcomes for clients in ICM and CC as compared to a control group of non-substance abusing welfare recipients. In general, clients in ICM and CC did not differ in their rates of employment and training during the 9 months of followup. Clients in the control group, however, reported significantly more work and training days. During 0 to 3 months, ICM and CC clients reported participating in 1.4 and 1.9 days of training per month, respectively, compared with 5.9 days of training for the comparison group (p<.0001). During months 4 to 6, ICM and CC clients reported on average 1.6 and 2.5 days per month versus 6.5 days per month for the comparison group (p<.0001). Similarly, during months 7 to 9 ICM and CC clients reported 3 and 3.8 days per month of employment and training days per month compared with 10.8 days for the comparison group. (p<.0001).(back)

Figure 5 Work/Training (> 10 days a month)

Figure 5 is a clustered bar graph that depicts the percentage of clients in the ICM, CC and comparison groups who worked or attended training at least 10 days during months 7 through 9. In general, approximately the same percentage of clients in the ICM and CC groups attended more than 10 days of work/training during each month, however, a significantly greater percentage of comparison clients attended at least 10 days of work/training. Specifically, in the 7th month, 12.9% of ICM clients, 11.6% of CC clients and 38.9% of comparison clients attended 10 or more days of work/training. During month 8, the percentage of those attending work/training 10 days or more increased to 15.4%, 21.7% and 50% for the ICM, CC, and comparison groups, respectively. Lastly, in the 9th month, 18% of ICM clients, 17.4% of CC clients, and 61.1% of comparison clients attended 10 or more days of work/training.(back)
